The tradition of chalk art on pavement began in 16th century Italy where drifting artists traveled between festivals living off coins thrown by their drawings. Today there are between 50 to 100 chalk festivals in the U.S. annually, including this weekend's street fair in Kennebunkport, Sept 23-24. Here's the schedule and slideshows from 2017, 2018  & 2019 to pique your curiosity.
